Jewelry Care
General Care
To safeguard and extend the life of your Heather Davis Designs jewelry, make certain to remove the articles before washing your hands, applying personal body products, swimming, exercising or cleaning. To preserve your jewelry’s original shine and finish, avoid bringing items into direct contact with popular agents, such as perfume, lotion, makeup, and hair and cleaning products.
When not wearing, store your jewelry in a dry area away from any moisture. If storing for extended periods of time, it is best to seal each piece in an airtight plastic bag to keep from tarnishing.
Always wear rubber or metal safety backs with your earrings to prevent loss.
Necklaces are made with exceptionally fine, gold-filled chains. These chains are incredibly delicate and must be handled with care to prevent breakage.
Gold Fill Jewelry Care
All chains and findings, including clasps, ear wire, and ear posts are 14K gold filled which does not tarnish, chip or turn your skin green. To clean, simply wash with a mild soap and warm water. It is best to avoid chemically-treated water like pools and spas.
Brass Jewelry Care
A combination of copper and zinc, brass naturally tarnishes over time and when exposed to oxygen or to the oils secreted by our skin. Avoid getting your brass jewelry wet. In the event it does get wet, take measures to ensure it is thoroughly dried before wearing or storing, to avoid damaging stains.
To rejuvenate or remove buildup of dirt and grime from Heather Davis Designs brass jewelry, apply warm water and a mild soap to a soft cloth or gentle brush. Once thoroughly dried, apply professional brass cleaner or an acidic solution (e.g. lemon juice, tomato ketchup, diluted vinegar) using a polishing cloth. Slowly rub to increase and maintain the luster of the brass. Regular maintenance ensures your brass jewelry looks as radiant and beautiful as the day you received it.
Sizing
Organic beauty blooms all around us; we just have to know how to take it in. The treasured keepsakes we hold dear are as personal as our life experiences and the beloved individuals we choose to honor. To ensure reflective virtue of your handcrafted, artisan jewelry, I encourage you to consider the fit and style before placing your order.
Necklaces
When considering the desired length of a necklace, first establish where you want the necklace’s pendant or charm to rest. To do this, use a string to mimic a necklace and pinpoint your ideal length. Hold the string against a measuring tape or ruler, and identify its length in inches. Compare your placement and measurement with the diagram below
Bangle Bracelets
To identify the diameter of your custom-made bangle, place one wrist in the palm of your opposite hand and enclose it by bringing together your thumb and pinkie finger. Open the palm of the hand you used to grasp your wrist; and with a measuring tape, identify the distance from the tip of your thumb across to the top of your pinkie.
To identify the widest point of your hand, hold your fingers up straight, and swipe and grasp your thumb to the center of your palm. Use a strip of paper or measuring tape to wrap around your hand at the widest point. If using a strip of paper, mark where the paper ends came together. Now measure the paper strip with a ruler; this is the circumference of your hand.
Alternatively, if you already have a well-fitting bangle bracelet, use a measuring tape or ruler to determine the inside diameter of the bracelet.
Compare your hand circumference to the chart below. For an ideal fit, you’ll want the diameter of the bangle to be one size larger than your actual hand measurement.
Cuff Bracelets
Designed to be worn just below the wrist bone, a cuff bracelet has a roughly 1” gap or opening between the ends of the material used to create it. Using a flexible tape measure or strip of paper, wrap it completely around your wrist in a comfortable, but not-too-tight, fashion. The number on the measurement tape indicates your appropriate bracelet size.
If using a strip of paper, mark where the two ends of the paper meet and measure it against a ruler. If you measure straight to the skin, adding ¼” should give you a comfy fit.
Compare your wrist circumference to the chart below.
